California’s Great Beyond

Ice Skating

The Mammoth Ice Rink is the spot to go ice skating in the Eastern Sierra. The open-air rink offers public skating daily and some of the best views you’ll ever find at an ice rink. Mammoth Ice Rink is home to youth hockey programs as well as adult hockey and curling leagues. Skating lessons and hockey clinics are also available throughout the short season. Weather permitting, the rink is open from November through February and has skate rentals and a snack bar.

The Mammoth Ice Rink is a pretty sweet spot to go skating, but it’s not always the only option. In winters when the cold arrives before the snow, many of the high mountain lakes that are popular for fishing during the warm weather months can be fun and unique places to skate or play pick–up games of pond hockey. While skating on frozen lakes and ponds in the Eastern Sierra can be spectacular, safety should always be the first priority - please use extreme caution.
