California’s Great Beyond

Horseback Riding

Horseback riding was the only way to get around when the Eastern Sierra was first being settled and explored. Well over a century later, lots of folks will tell you it’s still the best way to see this expansive and breathtaking terrain.

Many of the trails used by the original explorers like miners and Native Americans still exist, which is why horseback riding remains a popular and relatively easy way to access the High Sierra. Mono County offers a wide range of options for everyone, from short and easy jaunts with youngsters to backcountry excursions for seasoned riders.
