Located at a lower elevation than the Mammoth Lakes Basin by about 1,000 feet, but retaining all the beauty of serene trout-filled lakes, this hike is a local treasure. A gravel road leads to the trailhead parking area. The hike offers an uphill challenge for about 2.5 miles to the first lake. For more, continue to Upper Sherwin Lake and Valentine Lake, 2 miles and 1,000 feet higher into the backcountry. Expect to see fishermen, dog walkers and other day hikers.
