The trail to Hot Creek geological site is a unique place for dramatic Sierra views, a great half-day excursion from Mammoth Lakes in spring, summer or fall. The landscape stretches from the creek underfoot to mountain ranges in the distance on every side. In winter, this area is often snowbound and is popular for snowmobiling (stay on trails as ground can be unstable). Find Hot Creek by turning off Highway 395, several miles south of Mammoth Lakes, onto Airport/Hot Creek Hatchery Road, which becomes a rough dirt washboard road.
