Convict Lake is one of the most breathtaking and serene hikes in the Eastern Sierra. A gentle two-mile trail winds around the lake, through a beautiful aspen grove (that has spectacular colors in the fall) and along a boardwalk that crosses over inlet streams that run strong with snowmelt in the spring. Leaving from the parking lot at the northern edge of Convict Lake, the trail can be hiked in either direction. With Mount Morrison in the backdrop, hikers can work their way from the dirt trail to the wooden boardwalk that cuts through the aspen grove at the lake’s inlet and then back around. The trail is relatively flat and offers impressive views every step along the way. TIP: Convict Lake Resort offers horseback rides, and also has a marina with boat and kayak rentals for you to enjoy Convict Lake from a different perspective!
