Fishing Rules & Regulations



Trout Fishing Season
Regular Season:
Opens the last Saturday in April and closes November 15.
Topaz Lake: Opens for fishing on January 1 through September 30.
Year-Round: East Walker River, Hot Creek, and the Upper Owens River (public lands only) are open year-round for catch & release from November 16th - to the last Saturday in April. Special regulations apply. 

2013 Fishing Licenses:
A California Sport Fishing license is required of anyone over 16.
One-Day - $14.61 (resident or non-resident)
Two-Day - $22.94 (resident or non-resident)
Ten-Day - $45.93 (non-resident)
Annual - $45.93 (resident)
Annual - $123.38 (non-resident)

Closed to Fishing
Crooked Creek (below LADWP Gauging Station) – Closed All Year
Rock Creek Diversion Channel – Closed All Year

Hours
One hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset

Night Fishing
Night fishing is prohibited in all Mono County waters except Topaz Lake, where fishing is prohibited from two hours after sunset to one hour before sunrise.   Night fishing is allowed on Rock Creek Lake (Inyo County), 24/7.

Free Fishing Days
Two free fishing days are set each year in California: July 6, 2013 & Sept. 7, 2013.  On those days, a fishing license is required but there's no charge!
