The new Silver Meadow cross country skiing track in June Lake is getting rave reviews by local striders and snowshoers for its scenery and solitude. This two-kilometer track is perfect for beginners and families, offering dramatic views of Carson Peak as an excellent bonus. To find the trailhead from the town of June Lake, follow the road to Double Eagle Resort & Spa. After passing the resort on the left, look on the right-hand side for a green and yellow sign marked "Cross Country Skiing." Drive down the path and over two small bridges until reaching a parking area. Two other equally scenic and beginner-friendly cross country ski areas close to June Lake include trails at the June Lake Junction, located at the intersection of Hwy. 158 and Hwy. 395, and the trails at Obsidian Dome, about halfway between June Lake and Mammoth Lakes.
