Visiting the Eastern Sierra this summer? Explore the Hidden History of Old Marina as Friends of Mono Lake Reserve (FOMLR) starts new two-hour tours of the state reserve lands along Mono Lake. Find out how early residents made a home next to this unique lake and about farms and ranches that sprang up to feed surrounding communities and mining camps. As we learn about those who made Mono Lake their home, we will enjoy views of the lake and see marsh and migratory birds. Cost is $10 per person and can be paid in advance by calling (760) 932-7574.
Tours meet at Mono Basin Historical Society Schoolhouse Museum at 129 Mattly Ave., in Lee Vining. We will leave the museum 10 minutes after the meeting time to convoy to Old Marina. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, jacket, hat and water.
Tours are every Friday & Saturday from May 25 to Sept. 1 at these times:
Morning tour: 10:00am—Noon
Afternoon tour: 1:30pm—3:30pm
Please note: There will be no tours June 16 and August 10 and 11.
