Supplemental Trout Stocking Program -

MONO COUNTY TO STOCK ANOTHER SEVEN TONS
OF ALPERS TROUT THIS SUMMER

Bridgeport, CALIF - Seven tons of Alpers rainbow trout are being added to Mono County lakes this summer under a supplemental stocking program being underwritten by the County of Mono, the Town of Mammoth Lakes, the Bridgeport Fish Enhancement Project and private donations.

The new program will supplement reduced California Department of Fish and Game stocking efforts with $46,000 of Alpers trout, including some Hofer strain trout from Germany that were developed to be resistant to whirling disease.

Mono County Economic Development Director Dan Lyster said, "Budget shortfalls and other complications had reduced the number of fish which the California Department of Fish and Game would otherwise have planted in our lakes. We just couldn't let that happen. Mono County, our towns and fishing industry are committed to providing anglers with the very best conditions for fresh water fishing in California. The only way we could do that was reach deep into our bait boxes and pull out something that would work. Tim Alpers magnificent fish are just that bait."

The additional trout will average at a pound in weight, each and will be stocked in five Mono County lakes per week until Labor Day, including: Convict Lake, Lake Mary, Lake Mamie, Lake George, Mammoth Lake's Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, June Lake, Gull Lake, Grant Lake, Silver Lake, Lundy Lake, Saddlebag Lake, Little Virginia, Bridgeport Reservoir and Bridgeport's Upper Twin Lake. Locations of where the fish will be stocked will be posted at www.monocounty.org and www.visitmammoth.com.

Anyone wanting to make a donation to this program is encouraged to call Mono County Economic Development Direction Dan Lyster at (760) 924-1705. You can also make checks payable to the Mono County Economic Development Department and mail them to Mono County Economic Development Department at P.O. Box 2415, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546.
