No matter where you're at in Mono County, you're not far from a part of history. Nearly every known mountain man came through this region in the early days. Mark Twain wrote much of Mono Lake and the "fly eating" inhabitants of the area.

The Pony Express route runs across the territory. Precious metals were taken from grounds now strewn with evidence of once prosperous towns. A lake is named after convicts that escaped from the Nevada State Prison in the late 1800s.

If you're a history buff, this is a wonderful place in which to spend some quality time.
