09/03/2010 United Airlines is set to lift off with non-stop flights from San Francisco to Mammoth Mountain this winter! Beginning December 16, fly direct from SFO daily at 3:50pm and arrive in Mammoth Lakes in just over an hour! The direct flight from Mammoth leaves for San Fran daily at 5:27pm. Your Eastern Sierra playground just got a whole lot closer!

03/31/2010 Tons of rainbow trout have been stocked in Eastern Sierra waters since last fall, according to Mono County aquaculturist Tim Alpers who predicts opening day (April 24) of the fishing season will be as good in the Eastern Sierra as it has ever been.

Convict Lake

Situated at the base of Mount Morrison, the deep blue waters of Convict Lake invite you to enjoy a liesurely picnic or stroll along the lakeside trail. The epitome of peacefulness today, Convict Lake got its name from an incident that was nothing but peaceful. In 1871, six inmates from a Nevada prison escaped here, and eventually battled their way out with a shootout, ultimately giving Convict Lake its name. Today visitors escape to Convict Lake for fishing, horseback riding, hiking, camping and to enjoy fine dining at the Convict Lake Restaurant.

Convict Lake Activities
Fishing derbies are held throughout the season at Convict Lake - try your luck at catching a monster trout from a boat, float tube or from the shore. Ride by horseback on a guided trail ride or poke around for 500-year old fossils in the metamorphic rock formations. Autumn is the perfect time to visit Convict Lake, with brilliant fall colors and excellent fishing.

Campgrounds, cabin rentals, a boat launch, and general store are located adjacent to the lake.
