Topaz is right on the California - Nevada border and hence the northernmost town in Mono County. Nearby Coleville and Walker help provide services for visitors to Topaz Lake. The lake is very popular with Nevada and California residents.

Fishermen speak highly for it's well known for its prize-winning trout, not to mention the nine-month fishing season. Other vacationers like the water-skiing, relaxing on the beach and many enjoy stepping over the boarder to try their luck at casino gaming.

The area between Topaz and Coleville is referred to as the Antelope Valley. Much of the surrounding terrain is wild and open range land.

The winters are relatively mild in the region and thus you're likely to see many forms of wildlife roaming around in the nice weather during this season. You'll see cattle, sheep and horse ranches as you travel along Highway 395.
